We've been trying for months to get out to visit this restaurant and we finally decided to go. We weren't sure if we were going to get in or not because it was 6pm on a Friday night. But we got there and even though the parking lot was full once we got inside we were seated immediately. They have a lot of seating between inside, screen porch area, and the outside area. First off the hostess was patient and answered all of our questions before seating us. Our server was Ms Jessica and she was fabulous. She answered our question about the menu and she was very attentive during the entire meal. We started with calamari. It was fresh and lightly breaded. It was delicious. My wife got the flatbread with shrimp and scallops. She loved it. I got the grilled shrimp tacos(3) and they came with a side of chips and salsa. They were big with plenty of shrimp. I loved the jalapenos on top. Our son had butter noodles off of the kids menu. The atmosphere is great. We even got to watch fish jumping in the river. Even though the sun was bright coming in the window, it was perfect because that's what we came for, we came to experience dinner on the water. Also if the parking lot is full next to the restaurant they have overflow parking just down the road and they will come pick you up using a multi person golf cart.

Would recommend calling ahead to get a good spot especially if you want a view of the river and/or have a group. Food was good, portions were great. We got a variety of different types of the food (burgers, pasta, salad, fish, fried fish) all was good. Would come back again!

WHAT AN AMAZING FIND!! Beautiful views of the James River, DELICIOUS food, and a true queen of a server. We can’t shout Allison out enough! We were treated like regulars as soon as we entered and were already planning a trip back. Perfect weather, perfect vibes. 5 stars. 10/10. Slay.

Stopped by to get some lunch. What a great venue. We were quickly seated and waited on by Krystal. She made us feel welcome and made some great suggestions. We went with the Pulled Pork Sammy and the Crab Cake Sammy. Both were served quickly and came out hot. Well plated. My crab cake was a little soft but had great flavor. The bun was toasted perfectly. The remoulade added nicely to the flavor. Red onion and lettuce were crispy and fresh. Grab some napkins because your crab cake is going to be sliding out of the bun. The pulled pork was tender and the sauce was delicious. The seasoned fries and onion rings both needed salt. Looks like a fun place to catch a sunset!

This was our second visit to The Salty & it was even better than our first visit! Lloyd is a very special gentleman & our server Jodi was fabulous! We love to sit outside & enjoy the view of the river; it's absolutely the perfect spot to relax & let your cares drift away! Such a great atmosphere - relaxed, but fun, as well. The Crab Cake dinner was incredible, we can't get over the size & taste of those fantastic crab cakes! The remoulade is so good, as is the dill caper sauce. I had a shrimp basket for my meal & it was several steps above an average basket, believe me! The shrimp are plump & juicy, battered & fried to perfection, & they're such a good size, no skimping on the shrimp, here!! Their cocktail offerings are creative, fun, and GOOD! We got the April Showers & it was very tasty! All in all, this is a place I highly recommend if you're looking for a great meal in a fantastic atmosphere, with awesome folks! Bring your family, bring some friends; they have live music, line dancing, music bingo - all kinds of fun stuff going on! We already know we're going back!!

Restaurant closes 30 mins before closing time. So dont expect to be seated or get take out at 830pm. In that case it needs to be updated on Google. Also the crab dip is way overrated. All it is a big bowl of cream cheese with a slight crab taste! Definitely not worth the $16! Crab dip shouldnt be like that. The sandwiches were great but also not worth $17.

Nice place on the water. The crab cakes were fantastic and were portions perfect. You could tell it had the right amount of crab and was not mostly bread. I will go back next time in the area.

Nestled along the serene banks of the James River in Hopewell, Virginia, The Salty Siren offers more than just a meal; it delivers a full sensory experience by the water. This restaurant stands out for its commitment to fresh, flavorful seafood and classic American favorites, making it a culinary beacon for locals and visitors alike.

From the first bite, dishes like the scallops and the fried fish with hush puppies and seasoned fries reveal a masterful balance of texture and taste. The scallops are seared to perfection—tender yet slightly caramelized on the outside—while the hush puppies provide just the right crunch alongside the seasoned fries, elevating what could be simple sides into memorable accompaniments.

For those seeking heartier options, the ribeye steak and chicken wings with fries never disappoint. The steak is robust and juicy, executing the cut’s inherent richness with skill, while the wings pair crisply fried textures with flavorful sauces that invite one to savor every piece. Pairing these dishes with the signature beer cheese creates a tactile and taste contrast that enhances the overall meal.

Seafood lovers will find the oyster PO'boy with onion rings and the fried shrimp platter irresistible. Each oyster is fresh and briny, wrapped in a golden, crisp batter, and the accompanying onion rings add a sweet, savory crunch. The fried shrimp platter is generous, perfect for sharing or indulging in solo. The salmon fillet brings a lighter, yet equally satisfying, option, grilled to retain its moisture and flavor.

Unique starters like the mini crab cakes appetizer and house favorites such as the Philly cheesesteak and club sandwich ensure there is something for every palate. The crab cakes, although noted to occasionally be soft, shine with flavor thanks to fresh crab meat and a tangy remoulade. The Philly cheesesteak and club sandwich balance robust ingredients with fresh, crisp layers—comfort food done right.

Beyond food, The Salty Siren excels in atmosphere and service. Diners frequently praise attentive servers like Allison and Jessica, whose warmth complements the relaxed setting. Whether it’s the inside dining area, the screened porch, or the outdoor seating, every spot offers stunning views of the river—complete with occasional fish jumping—making each visit a feel-good event. The thoughtful gesture of overflow parking with golf cart shuttles shows the brand’s dedication to guest comfort and accessibility.

To finish, the cocktail menu adds a touch of sophistication. The Espresso Martini stands out—a bold, smooth concoction that strikes the perfect balance of caffeine and spirit, ideal for rounding out a satisfying meal by the water.

Overall, The Salty Siren is a destination where fresh seafood, expertly prepared meats, and friendly service converge against the backdrop of the James River. It is a haven for both casual diners seeking a great meal and those looking to savor an unforgettable dining experience in a naturally stunning setting.
